Being free to grow

It all began with a simple conviction that felt obvious to us. Children need space, freedom and movement to grow fully.

They need to play without rigid boundaries, to imagine without limits, to build with their bodies as much as with their minds. Play is an fundamental driver of their development.

A simple idea for a great ambition

By observing children, the desire was born to create a toy truly designed for their needs, one that sparks imagination and encourages movement.

A toy that supports motor, cognitive and emotional development. A toy that fosters joy, autonomy and confidence. A toy for both body and mind, without screens or pre written scenarios. A sustainable toy, full of meaning and values. A simple, open ended and evolving toy, designed to help children enjoy growing up.

And that is how inöuqa was born, quite simply.

Power of imagination and movement

Welcome to the world of inöuqa! We are delighted to welcome you. “We”? That's Camille and Benoit, the co-founders. Two adults who are still a little childlike, curious, and playful...

Since we were children, we have loved telling stories and inventing things.

Today, aware of the prevalence of screens, the decline of imagination, and the decrease in children's physical activity, we decided to take action. Guided by our vision and values, we support the power of imagination and the importance of movement.

Committing to the childhood of tomorrow

At inöuqa, every choice make sense.

From ideation to delivery, we wanted to build a project driven by values and positive commitments. A dose of sustainability, a touch of eco design, a desire for proximity, a strong sense of inclusion and a commitment to social responsibility.

This is our recipe for supporting childhood and creating a positive impact on our planet.

    2020 - Turning Point

It all started with a deep desire to contribute to future generations. As concerned parents, faced with the rise of screens and a decline in imagination, we were driven to create inöuqa to revive free, active, and sustainable play. A project aligned with our values. A personal need that became a collective ambition for childhood.
  •

    2021 - Formalization

After a period of deep reflection, the vision was refined and the initial outlines took shape. To bring the idea to life and lend credibility to the venture, the project needed an official framework. The inöuqa® trademark was registered on April 29, 2021, and the company inöuqa SAS was created on May 21, 2021.

    2021 - Development

In January 2021, our meeting and integration with the Descartes incubator made us realize how innovative the project was and highlighted the existing support mechanisms. An initial testing phase within the FabLab, followed by a long collaboration (2021-2023) with the Conicio agency (design + engineering), enabled us to design the parts, define the materials and assembly, and create various prototypes. At the same time, meetings and discussions with early childhood experts consolidated our direction and objectives towards industrialization.

    2022 - Industrialization

At the end of this ideation process, we began looking for manufacturers to help us produce. The meeting with Knauf Industries marked a decisive step, giving rise to a long-term collaboration based on a shared vision and common ambitions. After months of work and discussions, the partnership was signed in March 2023. This marked the start of the industrialization phase and laid the foundations for controlled, high-quality production.

    2022 - Approval

October 2022 marks a decisive milestone: after a few setbacks, numerous adjustments, and several versions, the final prototype is presented at the Kidexpo toy fair in Paris. The real-world testing is conclusive: children's feedback is enthusiastic, and parents' approval confirms the concept's relevance, intuitive use, and commercial potential

    2023 - Certification

2023 – Certification Late 2023 / early 2024 marks the culmination of the research and development process, as the finished product comes to life, ready to undergo standardization testing. After several weeks of testing at a certified laboratory, inöuqa is officially compliant with the safety standards in February 2024. Another milestone has been reached.

    2023 - Sales

In January 2024, the product is showcased in Nuremberg, at the world's largest toy fair. It's the perfect opportunity to present the concept and start sales. The response was very positive and the first commercial prospects began to emerge, particularly internationally. In the months that followed, several distributors specializing in sales to educational market placed orders: Czech Republic, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovakia... The adventure had begun!
  •

    2025 - Improvement

Deliveries began in June 2024 and business was excellent until the end of the year. This was followed by a series of adjustments to streamline the entire process: restructuring the production line, changing logistics partners, improving supplies, deploying an automated assembly machine, etc. These are structural and strategic decisions designed to improve efficiency and quality and enhance our credibility with our customers. Existing customers remain loyal and new ones arrive: we now also play with inöuqa in Germany, Switzerland, and Australia, in addition to the growing French market.
  •

    2025 - Evolution

The year ends with a desire to evolve and maintain our momentum. First, inöuqa improves its eco-design approach and reaffirms its commitment with the launch of “Green Ocean” colour, which contains 15% recycled fishing nets. At the same time, a partnership with Nathan is taking shape: the historic publisher will roll out inöuqa in French schools. Finally, a new phase of research and a new cycle of innovation are being launched to expand the range and invent future prospects

Question Corner

How did the idea come about?

inöuqa was born from a simple observation: children are spending more and more time in front of screens, playing less freely and sometimes lack opportunities to fully develop their imagination and motor skills.

As involved parents, we wanted to offer a playful, creative, and sustainable alternative that encourages autonomy, movement, and the joy of building together.

A toy inspired by our childhood memories, designed to help children grow through play, simply.

What is our mission?

Since the first player, we have been driven by the desire to preserve the carefreeness of the youngest and to offer them the path of imagination and movement. To guide them towards the paths of lightness, fun, and escape. To give them the desire to be curious, to be inventive, to share… To remain a child above all.

inöuqa is a game for them, but above all a sustainable, useful, and inclusive solution from the perspective of parents and professionals in care and health, concerned about their well-being, development, and flourishing.

What are our values?

They are within us and form the foundation of inöuqa. They seep into the products we imagine and develop as in our human relationships, with our clients, our partners, our team. We hold them dear and will often make our choices with them in mind. These are our four pillars:

  • Respect: to be honest, tolerant, to value the environment and humanity at every step for a brighter future
  • Adventure: to be passionate and dare to explore, to be curious, bold, to take risks and embrace creative freedom
  • Commitment: to be generous, to act with rigor, ambition, consistency, and long-term responsibility
  • Simplicity: to be open-minded and to advocate for authenticity, humility, kindness, and daily listening

Why the name "inöuqa"?

Since we want to inspire the imagination of the youngest, we might as well be the first to set an example, right?

The starting point is the desire to personify our game, to give it a little name, so that children can make it their own and see it as a true companion: "Can I play with inöuqa?"; "Can we take inöuqa to grandpa and grandma's?"; "So inöuqa, what are we building today?"… These are the kinds of phrases we hope to hear.

Our initial idea was also to not create boundaries with the name. Our toy is transferable to all the children on our planet, and the name needed to be as well. That said, it was the creative process that then took over… A combination of vowels, consonants, and syllables orchestrated and organized to achieve this beautiful sound:

  • the "i" from imagination,
  • the "ino" from innovation,
  • the "in" from inside,
  • the "nou" which refers to the notion of group and sharing
  • the "où" from "where are we going?" or the "ou" that opens the field of possibilities,
  • the "qa" from hut or square

In short, it’s a pretty mix that’s a bit quirky and fun, with a touch of exoticism thanks to the characters brought back from our travels, like the "ö" from Scandinavian and Germanic countries. Take a good look at it, and you’ll see a surprised smiley staring back at you. And you might regularly find it in our visual universe.

There you go, you know all the secrets of our name. We hope you like it.

Why is this responsible?

It’s a bit strange to say, but in fact we are creating a toy to consume fewer toys

  • A more durable toy in reality, which may replace several small purchases, more gadgets and undoubtedly less qualitative.
  • A toy that limits boredom and multiplies the possibilities of fun.
  • A toy that will be passed down within siblings, in the family, and that can be offered as second-hand.
  • A useful toy, to address current issues of lack of imagination, autonomy, isolation, inactivity, and overexposure to screens.
  • An inclusive toy, suitable for all types of children, even those with disabilities, attention disorders, or psychomotor issues.
  • A toy that also considers the preservation of our planet, produced in France with materials that are generally less harmful than what is currently done.
  • A toy available with a just-in-time production, a more reasoned consumption mode where we primarily produce by anticipating the quantities sold.
  • A toy made with industrial partners also chosen for their committed and relevant CSR policy.
  • A toy backed by a corporate culture that aims to preserve the quality of life at work for employees, their physical and mental health and their personal lives.

There you go, this is our approach, it’s the choice we are making in any case. This global approach reflects our desire to reconcile positive impact, quality requirements, and social responsibility. We hope this resonates with you…
